There are a number of different types of Homeowners policies that serve
different needs. They are differentiated by number and are called Forms.
| Homeowners Form #3 |
Most Homeowners have this policy. |
| Homeowners Form #4 |
A policy for Tenants (renters) |
| Homeowners Form #6 |
A policy for Condominium owners |
All Homeowners policies provide for both liability and contents coverage
and if you own a house the building is also included. Sometimes condominium
unit-owners also need building items to be covered, (depending on the
master policy). The standard homeowners policy provides broad protection
for a wide variety of perils like fire, hurricane, theft, vandalism, burst
pipes, etc.
The standard policy has many limitations.
You are not covered for Floods, Earthquakes or Building Code requirements,
etc. There are also special limits for Jewelry, Furs, Silverware, Antiques
and Fine Arts. These and other coverage gaps need discussion.
Pricing
Homeowners insurance is very competitive. When you get a quote, be sure
that the agent is quoting "apples to apples". We quote a standard
policy first, then explain extra coverages that improve the standard policy.
